Eric didn't belong here.

The place where Eric belonged was two hundred million miles from Belhaven, in a world as unknown to Earth as Earth was to it. Well, unknown before they found us. And not only did they find Earth, but they also found Eric and Fenella.
Now, they want them, and they will take them.
Together, the small town brother and sister will be thrust center stage in an epic power struggle within a world they never knew existed, while all around them civilizations collide, the mysteries of the past unfold, and legends are reborn.
As for Eric, perhaps not belonging wasn't so bad after all.

On the whole, an enjoyable and promising, if slow-paced, science-fantasy novel.Pluses:
• More often than in most novels, the story veered in an unexpected direction, and not usually out of some engineered surprise or plot twist, but rather because of simple and plausible happenstance or unexpected motivations. Particularly in the last third, you get the sense that you really don't know where any encounter or scene might go, and that it's definitely not limited by the most obvious story arc or the quickest path from plot point A to plot point B.
• The author does a great job of balancing mystery with revelation, teasing things that will become clear later for a strong sense of immersion in the "fish out of water" shock that the characters endure, while stopping short of frustrating the reader.
• While there are certainly some tried-and-true or even well-worn ideas and characters here, there are also some inventive and even innovative ones.
• The author provides us with a perfect "exposition" character and then skillfully avoids using him that way, allowing the exposition to occur at a more suspenseful pace, yet avoids this feeling like the maddeningly inexplicable tendency for characters to make things harder on everyone by not simply saying stuff.
• The first novel in the series sets up a lot of possibilities for where the rest of the story will go, enough to be intriguing and tantalizing.
Minuses:
• Quite slow-paced, especially in the first half. Lots of rambling asides that don't seem to contribute to plot, character, tone, or anything but page count. This novel is in no hurry.
• It can't make up its mind whether it wants to be scientifically plausible in a "science fiction" tone, or to embrace playing fast and loose with realism. I think the author intended the former and just wasn't as rigorous about it as I might have been.
• For the length of the novel, the characters seem like sketches more suited to a shorter form, rather than deep and nuanced. This may, however, simply suggest more fleshing-out will occur in later volumes.

It was a very well written book.
It kept me there until I had finished the book
My first language is Japanese. I often read English novels to improve my English, but almost always give up after about 30 pages.
However, The Tome Legend has a very fast pace, and makes me look forward to what will happen in the next chapter. So, I was able to continue reading the whole way through.
I especially like the characters, Manu and Gillabee are my favorites. I'm looking forward to seeing how Fenella, Eric and the others grow in future books.
I can't believe this is the first book from a new author!
The cover is what attracted me to this book, but the writing is what made a fan out of me. It is well paced, and blends action, humor, and intrigue in just the right amounts. I've been picking up a lot of indie books lately, and I can assure you, this one earns the 5 stars.
Love the characters, love the story, and love the author's amazing imagination. I would have no trouble in rattling off ten original ideas which appear in this book that I have never seen elsewhere.
If this is book 1, I eagerly awaiting the next volumes.
If you’re looking for a story with a world unlike any other, if you’re looking for action, adventure, and intrigue beyond our meager planet, if you’re looking for incredible landscapes, fascinating technology, and a vast variety of animals and beings, look no further.
Follow along the ride as Eric and Manu go to extreme lengths to rescue Fen, Eric’s sister, from political intrigue and the intents of a major religious movement in a world neither sibling knew existed until now. Enjoy the well thought out, captivating machinery, creatures, and characters they meet along the way. And be prepared to perch at the edge of your seat to find out what happens next.
No words here can do justice to the incredible imaginings found within The Tome Legend. This is a book worth reading, if for nothing else than to discover the vast and unique technology and peoples of Arkia. However, with characters you love to root for, aren’t sure whether you trust yet or not, and definitely want to see lose—and with a finely honed plot structure that keeps you intrigued and reading—this book is extremely well rounded, well structured, and well written. I am greatly looking forward to the next installment of this amazing story. And I know you will be too.
